warning: sabrina’s got her cranky pants on today.

this is JUST the news i wanted to hear about vote on the the goddamn mass transit funding bill in the goddamn illinois house.

A plan to raise taxes to help Chicago-area mass transit systems has failed in the Illinois House. …

The plan called for increasing sales taxes in Cook County and the five surrounding “collar” counties. It also would have raised a real estate tax in Chicago.

hey, G-Rod… thanks a lot for withholding your support and repeated insistence that you’d veto, making sure that cook county couldn’t raise its own goddamn sales taxes to fund its own goddamn mass transit, so the whole goddamn state didn’t have to chip in. now, instead of paying an (average) extra $35 per year in taxes, i can pay an extra $150 per year for my transit pass, which will now access far, far fewer buses and much crappier trains. oh, it isn’t fair for the poor drivers to have to pay to support transit they don’t even use… fuck that shit! transit indirectly serves everyone in this whole goddamn region, especially the drivers! every time my car isn’t out there taking up space on the kennedy, that’s your asses being served! every time some teenaged kid schlepps his ass after school from Lane Tech to a White Hen downtown, making seven bucks an hour so you can get your coffee, that’s transit serving your lazy cheap ass! if White Hen has to start paying ten bucks an hour just to get people who are willing to spend four hours on the goddamn el every goddamn day, YOUR CHEAP BAD COFFEE JUST GOT MORE EXPENSIVE, so SUCK IT UP just like how you told us transit riders to suck this up.

i hope gas goes up to eight bucks a gallon, you goddamn intellectually lazy, selfish, shortsighted fucking morons!

p.s. and for you suburban morons who are all pointing and laughing and saying we deserve to have the cta collapse due to our clear mismanagement:

Without new funding, Metra plans to divert $60 million of its capital budget to fund operations this year, which would reduce the amount the agency can spend on track maintenance and equipment.

hey, diverting capital funds to operations — that always works out well. just look at the CTA! y’all have fun with that!

p.p.s. Hey Los Angeles — enjoy the Olympics! we’ll just catch it on tv. it’s cool… illinois is just rolling in cash, we didn’t need that tax and tourism revenue anyways.

p.p.p.s. rod blagojevich, it’ll be a cold goddamn day in hell before i vote to elect you for so much as Sangamon County Dogcatcher.

Really, seriously ugly shirt

Dear $STORE:

Not even a 70% off sale would get any woman with a brain in this shirt. I think you will have to look into the possibility of bribery in order to get this cleared out of your inventory.

Seriously. Empire waists making everyone and her size 2 sister look 6 months pregnant are bad enough. But what is with the “Hi! I have boobies! See? They’re right HERE!” design element?

WTF,

as kim demands: i need to show off the loot from my SP!

yesterday, as i wandered home from the bus, eyeing the slightly ominous clouds overhead (and mindful of the morning’s forecast calling for rain, which prompted me to take my umbrella to work), i paused to check my mailbox, whereupon i spotted:

An envelope!

(Side note: what is up with the post office correcting the zip code on the return address?? I mean, it didn’t get returned… How strange!)

so it was actually very good that i had taken my umbrella to work, you see, because if i hadn’t taken it, it would have rained, all over my fantastic goodies from my SP!

inside, i opened it up to find a whole bunch of cool stuff:

Eeee!

first off is the Fiber Trends Spring Blossoms Shawl pattern, which is a really lovely pattern and looks like it should be a relaxing pattern to knit up.

on top of the pattern (so you can actually see them on my white table…) are two braids of really incredibly soft white roving. i’m not sure what the fiber is, but it’s very soft! there might have been a little snuggling. i’m just saying.

Roving

then there’s a skein of Twinkle Toes handpainted sock yarn in the ‘Ocean’ colorway, from Joslyn’s Fiber Farm in wisconsin. it’s a superwash wool/mohair/nylon blend, so it’s soft and just the tiniest bit fuzzy. check out the colors:

Sock yarn

i really like the colors on that! i’m not sure what pattern to knit up with it, but i did pick up two sock patterns that the Midwest Fiber Fair back a few weeks ago that i haven’t had a chance to play with, yet, so … who knows? (also, let me just say that today i finally figured out why i haven’t been able to take halfway decent photos of dark-colored yarns — which was a real issue for me while trying to upload my stash to Ravelry. i have apparently had the white balance set to something-other-than-neutral since, well, i don’t actually know how long, but it’s possible that it was since my last big road trip. which was in 2005. sooo….. never mind my being a dumbass, let’s all celebrate the fact that i was able to take photos of this yarn (at long last) where it looked dark blue like it is, and not bright sky blue, which it emphatically is not.)

and last, treats for my sweet tooth: licorice gumdrops and dark chocolate! i’ve never seen Crows before, but they rock. it’s like a whole box of black jellybeans, just for me! this chocolate bar is actually kind of cool, too; rather than giving you one big bar of chocolate, inside the packaging are five smaller individual bars, each of which is just exactly the right amount of chocolate — not too much and not too little. yum!

Yum!

so there you have it! the first official post o’squee. thanks to my awesome SP for such a thoughtful gift, and i can’t wait to get started with these goodies!

about the only thing keeping me going these past few days is pop music. not, like, sensible pop music, like pet shop boys. mindless cotton-candy pop music. britney spears’ greatest hits. i even listened to a bunch of billie piper and if that’s not straight out of a 12-year old girl’s diary i don’t know what is. i actually, in the end, was forced to come to the conclusion that i do not actually have enough cotton-candy pop music in my collection. this comes of, i think, being sadly much older than 12. (OTOH, i’m old enough to drink beer, so maybe it’s an OK tradeoff after all.)

now, if you’ll excuse me, i have to go dance around my kitchen and sing “Toxic” while putting away the groceries.

huh.

you ever have one of those weeks where you think to yourself “wow, i really need to start getting up earlier so i have time to deal with all these household crises that keep cropping up?”

because i am totally having one right now.
