Moblog

hopefully i haven’t annoyed anyone with the appearing-and-disappearing moblog entries this afternoon, as i worked on customizing Brandt Kurowski’s moblog.pl a little. it worked fine out of the box, but there were some tweaks to make it do things the way i wanted.

i made the following modifications:

  • It can optionally strip a string from the Subject: line of incoming messages — so that one may do something such as mail oneself blog entries, identifying them with a Subject: line tag, which forces procmail to send it off to moblog.pl,
  • It allows you to change what end-of-line tag you use, so if you are picky like me you can use

    instead of
    , for example,

  • It allows you to trivially change the order of message body and image in the published story,
  • It supplies an entry-specific ALT attribute for the IMG tag, using the text of the entry title, and
  • It allows you to specify the blosxom story filename suffix, in case you use something other than txt.

nothing was particularly interesting or complex really, but i thought it was possibly worth sharing.

diffs are at http://ziggurat.org/sabrina/perl/moblog.pl.diff; the full script is at http://ziggurat.org/sabrina/perl/moblog.pl.

so i like to read alt.tv.radiohead. it’s actually not all that much always about radiohead, unless the band are touring or releasing something, but the regulars often post commentary on other music they’ve listened to as well, so it’s interesting to see what they say. as an example, they’re the reason i started listening to modest mouse — after someone posted something along the lines of “yeah, the singer has an annoying voice, but that new album, that’s not bad,” i headed over to iTunes and listened, decided i liked, and bought. i’ve managed to score a bunch of neat stuff based on atr commentary.

recently, i got Final Straw by Snow Patrol, which is fairly accessible modern rock (if that’s not a genre, per se, it ought to be), and through someone commenting on a mashup of “Karma Police” and “A Day in the Life” by Go Home Productions, which led to listening to a bunch of their stuff and following a link for a track they produced for another project, Parkspliced, which is pretty interesting and i’ve pimped it out to a couple of people (and yes, i donated). so, that’s cool. yay new music!

i feel sure that there were some other things, as i started this blog entry yesterday sometime but never finished, but don’t see why i would write about just a couple of bands, so maybe i’ll update this later when i’m not half asleep and remember, hopefully, what i started out to write about in this post.

anyone else have any recommendations for new stuff i should be listening to? broaden niqui’s horizons!
