how could anyone expect me to sleep at the moment?

GEOFF BLUM!

today’s was a pretty good commute, despite the lurking cop on LSD (seen in plenty of time to moderate speed) and the CTA bus pulled over (“pulled over”) into one of the pullover sticky-outy bits on LSD, necessitating an abrupt lane-change because when i say it was “pulled over,” i mean it was still half-occupying my lane, the far right lane. the radio was sweet (99.9FM, Prince: “I Would Die 4 U,” Bee Gees: “Jive Talkin’,” then discussion of selling Paulie’s grand slam ball (personally, I would say offer him right of first refusal and then sell it, donate the cash (after taxes) — Habitat for Humanity is MLB’s designated charity, and i’m sure they can build a house or two for Katrina victims with $50k), then new Beck on XRT, then more about Paulie’s ball), and I was nearly all the way to work when Jackassery with a capital J reasserted itself.

i was driving west on the midway plaisance, turned south at woodlawn, and stopped at the red light before crossing the eastbound plaisance. a white chevy blazer came up behind me and then weaseled past me on the right — i hate it when people do that, because it means they’re going to bust through the intersection when it changes, to get around me. but! today was different. he weaseled past me, and kept creeping up — to a “so far in the intersection while still nominally stopped” distance that a cabbie would be proud to lay claim to — and then he just didn’t stop. he didn’t so much run the red light as he sauntered through. the most surreal bit was that he swerved far left — i thought he was going to pull a uie — in order to avoid two pedestrians crossing woodlawn in the crosswalk, who were giving him massively “WTF?” looks. probably mirroring mine.

then, he promptly stopped and waited to let someone through the four-way stop at 60th, fifty feet past the red light he went through.

je ne comprends rien.

OMG WHITE SOX

often when i get up from my knitting on the couch, i return to find that one cat or the other has been keeping my spot warm.

knitting cat
kiyoshi is particularly resistant to being moved when he steals my spot. there’s meowing. there’s climbing back up before i get a chance to sit down. there’s resentful meowing from the floor. it’s all very dramatic.

more knitting pics after the jump…
