i am a fucking moron. i completely forgot the ticket i had for the modest mouse show at northerly island tonight. i was sitting there, brushing my teeth and thinking about maybe biking to work tomorrow, and realized mid-brush that today was tuesday.

someone please tell me that it was awful, horrible, terrible acoustics, the humidity was so oppressive that half the audience passed out, the sound production was a train wreck, or at least that it was as bad as the handsome boy show that wasn’t; just say something to make me feel good about being a fucking spaz.

fuck, fuck, fuck! i was really looking forward to that show, goddammit!

All road trips should end with big gay pet shop boys mental danceathons

welcome to hot springs.

I quite like Hot Springs. it can be rather derelict, especially out of the immediate National Park/Bathhouse Row area.

baking hot

It’s 97 degrees at Rend Lake in southern Illinois, and I’m looking for a cup of coffee. Because I’m an idiot.

someone asked me today if i was all stiff the day after the picnic from all that strenuous volleyball.

guys, i’m fat and i had forgotten the direction of rotation — but i was playing with ten year-olds.

sheesh.

in other news, i’m enjoying the fact that i am singlehandedly keeping a four-seat table away from the softball-playing smirking losers trying to find seats in this pub. you know why? because the bar staff know me and i’m not a shithead like you. i may be blogging… but still not a loser softball-playing shithead.

mnuahahahah.

in other other news, i am forced against my will to wonder what this softball-playing loser shithead meant, exactly, when he said “guys, i’m going to hit the head; do you want anything?”

maybe i should give up this table, after all.

oh, we’ve got blue eyes; we’ve got green eyes; we’ve got grey eyes.

you know what, guys?

i and people like me actually run this nation.

me.

the fat chick in the white sox jersey (#14; Konerko; thank you).

we make your movies; we keep your money moving.

direct deposit? that’s me.

email? that’s me.

i keep the booze moving too, because, UPS and fedex?

we pwn them.

it’s all about the computers. and you and your silly twit friends who, like, type memos quickly?

we pwn you too.

so don’t lean on my table, bitch, ‘cos i’ll take you to school.

(and i did! hah!)

there’s some basketball game on tonight.

who knew?

?

…or not.

family matters necessitate driving down south for the weekend. i expect that the twelve-hour drives (each way) will be the most pleasant parts of the time.

sorry for radio silence lately. it’s been nothing worth writing about, except for the occasional photo op. if i had a fancy-pants plugin (or cared), i’d post my delicious links to the blog automagically, but … i don’t. there may be some more photo ops while i’m gone, assuming i have cell signal for this silly gadget. presumably there may be some flickr fodder as well, as early summer is not an altogether unpretty time to pass through the ozarks, though i’m not exactly going to be sightseeing.

still, i’ll be missing pride, a cookout, and a friend’s birthday party in order to go away this weekend, and those are just the cherries on top of what constitutes a rotten road trip sundae already.

oh well. at least i’ll be able to make inroads on my trucker tan.

Here; in lieu of blog entries of substance: have a flower.

the beer guy that won't climb stai

This beer guy has become more and more reluctant to climb stairs. I really feel that accepting a job as uppe deck beer guy implies that one must climb stairs. He gets no tips. Also, go White Sox!

so last friday was the workplace summer picnic. i played volleyball badly, i got sunburned, and i programmed the music. it was fun.

i actually had a good amount of fun putting together the playlist. as i described the process, i tried to cover as many genre bases as possible to entertain the many varied individuals at the picnic, while not involving too much ‘motherfucker’ to traumatize the kiddies. and trust me, the (non-total) ‘motherfucker’ moratorium eliminated several songs i would have liked to have included because they rock out. we made it all the way through “Mother’s Little Helper,” which disappointed me because that meant the party ended before my cleverly-picked “go away now” songs got played. ah well.

the playlist…

Andrew Sullivan: She’s running.

it’s not that i’m opposed to hillary as potus. i think she’s a hell of a woman. i’d be happy to vote for her—happier than i was to vote for kerry, certainly.

but, so many folks are still full of anger and vitriol. there hasn’t been time for people to cool off about how they hated the clintons. the current administration has really just cemented people on either side of the aisle, that they are right and the other side wrong.

i don’t know about this idea, guys. even just talking about it, you’re making me nervous.
